bilbao 4The city itself is considered an architectural reference around the world. The Guggenheim Museum designed by Frank Gehry is part of the city's bustling cultural life. While in Bilbao you will be able to attend music concerts, art exhibits, theater plays and film festivals organized by the city.

In addition, Bilbao offers a unique mixture of Spanish tradition and modern ways. The Old Quarter and the city's downtown are home to cultural treasures, old churches and buildings, but also shops and countless restaurants that will enable you to try regional and international cuisine.

Living

spain 3

UW-Green Bay students stay with a host family while in Bilbao. While you are hosted by a Spanish family, you will learn the language and culture faster, and that way you will make the most out of your semester abroad.  Your Spanish family will provide you with 2-3 meals per day, laundry, and telephone service for incoming calls.

You have a choice of living in Bilbao, close to the university, or in Gexto, a suburb of Bilbao that is close to the coast.  Keep in mind that families will vary in structure, location, and in their relationship with host students.
Don’t worry!  You will fill out a form with your application about your level of Spanish, host family and location preferences, and personal needs and Deusto will match you with a family that suits you best.
