International Winter Universities (IWU) have a common structure (study program, language courses, cultural program, and credits), the content of the study program varies according to the profile of each university.

Kassel International Winter University (IWU)
The International Winter University (IWU) Kassel combines high quality education and credit points with priceless personal experience and first hand impressions of Germany and Europe. Learn more about the program on their website.
Program Dates: for Winter 2018 the program dates are December 29, 2017- January 18, 2018.
Kassel IWU Course Options
Student will enroll in a German language course (beginner - advanced- 3 UWGB credits) and one additional subject focused course (3 UWGB credits). Find out more details about the modules and German language course on this webpage. Students choose one subject focused course module:
German Cultural Studies - Reflections on German History, Literature and Art: Focusing on the "Age of Goethe", end of the 19th century (Nietzsche), the revolutionary art movement (Bauhaus and Expressionism), and contemporary German culture.
Environmental Science / Renewable Energy Module: Focusing on climate change and climate policy, potentials of renewable energy, wind energy, low energy housing, photovoltaics, solar thermal technology, biomass, and heat-generating plants.
Included in the program are multiple exciting cultural activities. In addition to the opening and closing ceremonies, as well as leisure activities in the evenings. Kassel offers a number of informative and fun workshops and excursions. Past activities have included:
- German cooking
- German dancing
- Movie & game nights
- Trip to Frankfurt
- Optional New Year's trip to Berlin (additional 295 Euro).

Students will stay with a host family for the duration of the program. The homestay will add immeasurably to your study abroad experience and guarantee diverse opportunities to improve your language and intercultural skills.
Families will provide 2 meals per day and students will work with Kassel's host family coordinator to match with a host family after acceptance.
